Wood Plank Headboard Items you will need to complete the job: -Miter saw -Skill saw -Nail gun -Finishing nails -White paint -Plywood sheet -1"x4" Boards -Tape measure -Plank Tongue and Groove Flooring -Pencil 1. Measure the width of the bed for which you are making the headboard. Decide the height you want your headboard to be. 36 inches or taller tends to look best. For this example we will make the head board 76 inches long by 48 inches high. (King size bed) 2. The dimensions of a sheet of plywood are 96 inches by 48 inches (8' x 4'). Cut the plywood down to 76 inches long using a skill saw. 3. Miter cut the 1" x 4"'s to make a frame. Cut two boards with a miter saw at 76 inches and the other two boards at 48 inches. Place the cut 1"x4"'s on the plywood creating a frame. Nail the frame to the plywood using a nail gun with finishing nails. Nail diagonally through the sides of the 1"x4"'s into the plywood. 4. Paint the 1"x4" frame white after it is attached to the plywood and allow it to dry. (Be sure to paint the inside and outside edges of the frame) 5. Lay your wood planks out in the middle of the plywood inside the frame to see what kind of cuts you will need to make. Make sure the joints in each row of the planks are not lined up. Start installing the wood planks at the top of the headboard, making your cuts as you go. Make sure the tongue side of the plank is facing toward the bottom of the headboard. Nail the planks diagonally through the tongue into the plywood. Continue to attach each row until you reach the bottom of the headboard. Depending on the width of the wood planks you use, you may need to cut the width of the last row to fit within the frame. You will need to cut the tongues off the last row of planks so they will fit flush against the frame as well. Use a skill saw to make these cuts. Other Links You Might Like:
