1. Make sure the desk is clean and oil free. Paint the base of the desk an off white color.
2. Lay out the marble tile face down in the center of the desk in a diamond pattern. Place the granite pieces around the outside edges of the desk. Use the rafter square to make the tiles for your cuts. The edges of the tile once cut should be flush with the edge of the desk top.
3. Use a wet saw with a diamond blade to cut the tile along you marked lines. Use a black magic marker for you lines so the water from the wet saw will not wash them off.
4. Once you tile has been cut lay it out on the desk top to make sure all your cuts are correct. Once all cuts are correct and the edges are clean and flush remove the tile from the table top and set aside.
5. Prepare mortar by mixing with water. Mortar should be the consistency of paste. Use a trowel to apply a thin layer of mortar to the desk top.
6. Place the tile into the mortar press firmly. Use a level to check that the tiles a flat. Do not leave any space between the tiles as you go.
Tips: Look for old desks at garage sales. You can pick them up for very cheap, and all they sometimes need is a little TLC for a new life!
