Making a Gourd Birdhouse Gourd Birdhouse

Items needed for this project:

  • - Dried gourd
  • - Drill
  • - 1 ½ inch arbored hole saw attachment
  • - 1/4 inch drill bit
  • - Polyurethane spray
  • - Wire hanger
  • - Wire cutters

 

 

Drill hole for the birds to enter throughgourd handlefinished bird houses 
    

 

1.  Be sure that the gourd is entirely dry.  Use 1 ½ inch arbored hole saw attachment with your drill, to drill the bird entrance hole.

2.  Pull innards/seeds out of gourd.

3.  Drill several 1/4 inch holes using the drill bit on the bottom surface of the gourd for drainage.

4.  Drill 2 holes at the top of the gourd front to back.

5.  Cut wire hanger to hanging length desired and place in holes at the top of the gourd.  Twist the hanger tightly in place and leave a hook at the top for hanging.

6.  Once hanging, spray with poly to protect from weather.

7.  Hang your birdhouse! You can also group several birdhouses together.
