1.  Once you have selected the wood of your choice, have wood cut to the size you want (some home improvement stores will cut your wood for free, just bring dimensions!) The coat rack pictured is approximately 2 ½ feet width x 7 inches height

2.  Use marking pencil and tape measure to mark four spots for screw holes for fastening coat rack to the wall.  Be sure the marks are lined up two at the top and two at the bottom of the rack.

3.  Use 1/8 inch drill bit to drill holes at these marks.

4.  Return with ½ inch spade bit to drill larger holes on top, no more than ½ way through the wood.

5.  (Optional step) Use router to create interesting edges

6.  Use sandpaper to sand wood to a smooth finish

7.  Stain wood

8.  Once stain is dry, use marking pencil and tape measure to mark 4 spots, equal distance apart, for decorative hook locations.

9.  Screw in decorative hooks

10. Use screws and anchors to attach coat rack to the wall.  Use carpenter's level to be sure coat rack is level.

11. Place wooden caps into spaded ½ inch holes on top of screws for a finished look.

12. Your coat rack is complete. Now your guests have a place to hang their coats!

   *  Be creative with your wood, stain and decorative hook choices.
